You can now use sidestep to perform direct airline, hotel, or car rental searches through the sidestep 'agent'. Sidestep compares rates from almost every company available (unlike Orbitz or Expedia, who only check a few choice partner companies).
Also, if you happen to go direct to an airline or car rental site to check rates, sidestep automatically boots up performs "comparison shopping" in parallel on all available carriers, using the same travel parameters you just entered. For example, if you went to Southwest.com to look for flights to Vegas, sidestep automatically starts up in parallel and checks all the other available airlines for you for the same itinerary.
